Will the coronavirus make outside learning impossible in the future?
Back to question

The coronavirus will die off in the near future, making life normal again

The coronavirus has swept through the world. It’s caused a lot of fear and pain. But people should hope for the best. Outbreaks have died down before, so the same will happen with the coronavirus.

Context

COVID-19 (coronavirus) broke out in China during December 2019. In January 2020, the virus spread to other countries like Thailand and Japan. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic. The virus continues to gain new cases presently.

The Argument

Learning outside has become nonexistent with the coronavirus became a pandemic. It has left a lot of students without the freedom of hands-on learning about the earth’s environment. But this reality will end eventually. Like many epidemics and pandemics, the coronavirus will eventually die down. The flu, once considered a deadly disease, has since been controlled. The H1N1 virus (swine flu) was also eradicated. It’s safe to say that the coronavirus won’t stay around for long either. Students will be able to learn outside soon enough. Scientists estimate that the virus will start diminishing by the year 2021.[1] There’s even a hunt for a cure. All the odds are in the favor of academic life returning to normal.

Counter arguments

Currently, the coronavirus has no end in sight. Although scientists hope for a change by 2021, there’s still so much that the world doesn't know about the virus, which suggests that defeating it will be harder than it seems. Even South Korea is expecting another spike in cases.[2] The consensus is that there’s no obvious end to the outbreak. This means that students will not be safe anytime soon. The virus will be an ever-present threat until there is a definite treatment plan. In the meantime, schools will have to remain closed or limited. There will not any outdoor classes soon. It’s an unfortunate reality that everyone must face. The coronavirus won’t be gone soon. Maybe it will still be a problem in year 2021. So for now, there won’t be any outdoor activities.
