Is animal milk healthy?
Back to question

Milk is unhealthy because of the chemicals that farmers put in cows.

Farmers put harmful antibiotics and hormones into cows producing milk.

The Argument

During the dairy milk farming process, many farmers inject or give their cows chemicals, such as antibiotics and hormones. These injections can create health hazards for humans. Farmers give their cows hormones to stimulate growth and milk production. Often dairy cows produce milk far more than they would in the wild due to these hormones. Hormones sometimes present in milk include prolactin, estrogen, progesterone, corticoids, and androgens. Hormones in the human body are chemical messengers responsible for signalling to the body and brain when to do certain things such as grow, eat, drink, etc. This system is called the endocrine system, and it contains a delicate balance of hormones. When hormones from milk are introduced into the endocrine system, it can lead to a disruption in reproduction, development, and healthy growth in humans. Hormones in milk are also believed to contribute to the development of prostate and breast cancer. The antibiotics injected into cows are intended to prevent them from getting sick and allow them to produce more milk. When bacteria are repeatedly exposed to antibiotics in cows, they eventually become resistant to them. These bacteria, which can infect humans through milk, are resistant to antibiotics, and very difficult to treat.

Counter arguments

-Not all cows are given antibiotics or hormones. -Antibiotics and hormones are not definitively proven to cause health issues.
